Maintenance Engineer – Food Production Plant

About the role

Silver Fern Farms is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team at its Belfast site in North Christchurch. The role is hands‑on and trade‑focused, providing engineering services, maintenance and technical support in a busy food production environment. You will work closely with production and engineering teams to ensure plant equipment reliability, safety and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical repairs and maintenance across site equipment and production assets.
• Carry out planned maintenance to maximise plant performance and minimise equipment failure.
• Respond to breakdowns, restoring equipment to full operating capacity quickly and safely.
• Maintain pneumatic, hydraulic, conveyor and drive systems, as well as related plant equipment.
• Support installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment.
• Ensure maintenance work complies with food safety, quality and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and task data in the site CMMS.
• Promote a strong safety culture through hazard identification, safe work practices and permit systems.

Required profile

• Trade‑qualified engineer with a mechanical or engineering qualification.
• Experience in maintenance operations within a manufacturing, processing or industrial environment.
• Proactive problem‑solver who works safely and reliably, both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships across the business.
