Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Food Science (Permanent)

About the role

The School of Chemical Sciences at the University of Auckland is seeking a permanent academic faculty member at Lecturer level (with potential progression to Senior Lecturer) in Food Science. This full‑time position involves research‑informed teaching focused on the fundamental principles of food processing, food safety, and food microbiology, with an emphasis on relevance to the New Zealand context.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate Food Science courses, integrating current research.
• Develop and deliver curriculum, including curriculum design and assessment.
• Supervise honours, Masters and PhD students in food‑related research projects.
• Conduct independent research, secure external funding, and publish findings.
• Collaborate with related programmes such as Forensic Science, Green Chemical Science and Wine Science.
• Participate in offshore teaching commitments, including travel to partner institutions.

Required profile

• PhD in Food Science or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated ability or strong potential for high‑quality research.
• Experience in university‑level teaching and curriculum development.
• Commitment to teaching excellence and community engagement.
• Ability to develop a research agenda that aligns with New Zealand priorities.
