Lecturer in Biotechnology (Permanent)

About the role

The University of Auckland is seeking a Lecturer in Biotechnology to join its Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering. This permanent, full‑time position involves developing an independent research programme and delivering high‑quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in biotechnology and related engineering subjects.
• Establish and lead an internationally recognised research programme in scalable biotechnology or biomanufacturing.
• Supervise and mentor postgraduate research students.
• Publish research findings and contribute to the university’s research excellence.
• Build collaborative relationships with industry partners and the wider research community.
• Participate in curriculum development, continuous improvement of teaching, and departmental service activities.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent in biotechnology, bioprocess engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated expertise in scalable biotechnology or biomanufacturing.
• Experience with cell‑based production systems, nucleic acid manufacturing, or related biotechnological processes.
• Strong record of research publication and ability to secure research funding.
