About the role

The University of Auckland is seeking an enthusiastic Lecturer in Biomaterials or Bio‑Polymers to join its Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering. This permanent, full‑time role offers the freedom to develop an independent research programme while delivering high‑quality teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver engaging undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Chemical and Materials Engineering.
• Contribute to the Faculty’s professional engineering skills (ENGGEN) programme.
• Develop and grow an independent research programme in biomaterials, sustainable polymers or biopolymer processing.
• Publish high‑quality research and pursue external funding opportunities.
• Supervise postgraduate students and final‑year research and design projects.
• Build strong relationships with industry, government and research partners.
• Contribute to an inclusive departmental culture, outreach and university initiatives.

Required profile

• Passion for biomaterials and bio‑polymer research and teaching.
• Strong track record of research excellence and publications.
• Ability to inspire and support students in developing technical and professional skills.
• Commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary work and community engagement.

Required skills

• Expertise in biomaterials.
• Knowledge of bio‑polymers and sustainable polymers.
• Experience with biopolymer processing techniques.
• Background in chemical and materials engineering.
