Learn to Swim Teacher – Community Aquatics

About the role

The Learn to Swim Teacher will deliver preschool and school‑aged swimming and water‑safety lessons at Waterworld Te Rapa, Hamilton’s flagship aquatics centre. This part‑time role supports the Council’s Community Group mission to provide safe, fun, and inclusive community services.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and conduct swim lessons for children of various ages, focusing on basic swimming techniques and water safety.
• Maintain a safe pool environment, monitoring participants and enforcing safety protocols.
• Communicate progress to parents/guardians and provide feedback to improve confidence in the water.
• Adapt lesson plans to suit different skill levels and group sizes.
• Cover scheduled shifts, primarily afternoons (3:15‑6:30 pm) and weekend mornings (7:45‑11:30 am), with priority for Sunday mornings and Monday evenings.

Required profile

• Passion for water safety and working with children.
• Reliable availability to cover varied shift patterns.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.

Required skills

• Austswim certification with training in swimming instruction and water safety.
• Previous experience teaching swimming to children.
