Leading Hand – Drainage

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Leading Hand to join our Drainage team and manage a range of projects across New Zealand. You will oversee daily site activities, ensure plans are followed, and keep projects on schedule while maintaining high‑quality workmanship.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a crew on deep drainage, trench excavation, pipe‑laying and dewatering works.
• Read, interpret and apply engineering plans and specifications.
• Monitor progress against production targets and adjust resources as needed.
• Train, mentor and evaluate team members to develop skills and safety awareness.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards on site.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading a team in the drainage or civil construction industry.
• Physically fit, self‑motivated and safety‑conscious.
• NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
• Ability to communicate clearly and drive team performance.

Required skills

• Deep drainage techniques.
• Trench excavation with shields.
• Pipe‑laying and dewatering operations.
• CCC Authorised (preferred).
• NZ Registered (preferred).
• WTR endorsements (essential).
• STMS certification (preferred).
• National Certificate in Water or Drainage (advantageous).
