Leading Hand – Construction

About the role

Join a landmark wastewater infrastructure project in Lower Hutt, delivering critical treatment upgrades for Wellington. As a Leading Hand you will lead crews on‑site, coordinate multiple trades and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily site activities and direct construction crews across civil, structural, mechanical, piping and related works.
• Manage subcontractors, allocate tasks, monitor progress and maintain quality control.
• Review plans, drawings and work packs to support efficient delivery.
• Coordinate materials, plant and equipment to keep works moving.
• Promote a Zero Harm safety culture through toolbox talks and proactive hazard identification.
• Resolve site issues before they impact schedule and collaborate with supervisors, engineers and project teams to meet milestones.

Required profile

• 7+ years experience in industrial, water, infrastructure or heavy construction projects.
• Previous experience as a Leading Hand, Foreman or Supervisor.
• Proven ability to coordinate multiple trades and subcontractors.
• Strong communication, leadership and problem‑solving skills.
• Commitment to safety and Zero Harm practices.

Required skills

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of construction sequencing, permits and lifting operations.
• Understanding of quality requirements in heavy construction.
