Lead Power Generation Engineer – Solar PV & BESS

About the role

Aurecon is seeking a Lead Power Generation Engineer to drive complex solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across New Zealand. You will work directly with utility‑scale developers, guiding projects from early approvals through construction and operation while collaborating with Aurecon’s specialist teams in NZ and APAC.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end delivery of solar PV and BESS projects for utility‑scale developers.
• Lead owner’s engineering, due‑diligence, lender advisory and design services.
• Own projects post‑onboarding, ensuring client satisfaction and project performance.
• Coordinate with clients, internal specialists and external stakeholders such as Transpower and the System Operator.
• Develop and maintain strong client and internal relationships to achieve project outcomes.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of experience in the power industry, including at least 3 years in commercial or utility‑scale solar PV.
• Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle, from approvals and grid connection to construction and operations.
• Experience with grid‑connection processes and interaction with transmission system operators.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering preferred; other engineering disciplines considered.
• Valid Class 1 New Zealand driver’s licence and willingness to travel across NZ and APAC.
