Lead Guide for 3‑Day Fiordland Adventure

About the role

The Humpridge Track, a charitable trust that recently achieved Great Walk status, is seeking a Lead Guide to lead small groups on a three‑day, three‑night wilderness adventure in Southern Fiordland. The role combines guiding, customer service, and logistical support to ensure a memorable, fully catered experience for domestic and international walkers.

Key responsibilities

• Guide groups of 12‑16 walkers on a 3‑day, 3‑night trek covering up to 100 km per week.
• Provide information on native bush, wildlife, cultural history, and the historic Port Craig Sawmill settlement.
• Assist lodge teams with meal preparation, clean‑up, and overall guest care.
• Perform pre‑trip planning and post‑trip reporting, including communication with lodge managers and track base.
• Maintain safety standards, administer first aid when needed, and adapt to all weather conditions.

Required profile

• Proven experience guiding in New Zealand sub‑alpine conditions.
• Guide qualifications or willingness to undertake further training.
• Friendly, customer‑focused attitude with strong communication skills.
• Physically fit to walk 20 km per day and support trekkers throughout the journey.
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand.

Required skills

• First Aid certification.
• Guide qualifications (or commitment to obtain).
• Proficient office skills for trip planning and reporting.
