Labourer/Operator – River Protection & Drainage

About the role

This permanent, full‑time position involves working on river protection and drainage projects across the Temuka area. You will join a team dedicated to sustainability, operating a range of light and heavy machinery to maintain environmental infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out labouring tasks and safely operate plant and equipment.
• Maintain and inspect machinery to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Support emergency works during floods, fires and other natural disasters.
• Collaborate with mana whenua, local communities and contractors on river‑bank planting, weed control and tree clearance.
• Use 4WD vehicles, tractors, chainsaws, spray equipment and other light machinery as required.

Required profile

• Practical, safety‑conscious and comfortable working outdoors.
• Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and a strong environmental focus.
• Ability to work independently and follow health‑and‑safety procedures.

Required skills

• Class 1 full driver licence (minimum).
• Class 2 & 4 licences with W, T, R endorsements for operators.
• Experience operating chainsaws and other machinery (training provided).
• Ability to apply herbicides safely (training provided).
