Java Backend Engineer - Mandarin Speaking

About the role

The Java Backend Engineer will join Global Wave Group’s I&T team in Albany, Auckland, designing and maintaining high‑performance backend services for critical business applications. The role requires close collaboration with product managers, QA engineers and fellow developers to deliver secure, reliable solutions while communicating effectively in Mandarin.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Java‑based backend applications using Spring Boot.
• Build scalable RESTful APIs and micro‑services architecture.
• Design and optimise database schemas and SQL queries for MySQL.
• Integrate third‑party systems and external APIs.
• Participate in system architecture and technical design discussions.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
• Improve application performance, reliability and security.
• Write clean, maintainable, well‑documented code and conduct code reviews.
• Collaborate within Agile development teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional Java development experience.
• Strong proficiency with Java 8+ and Spring Boot.
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design and micro‑services.
• Experience with relational databases (MySQL) and ORM frameworks (MyBatis, Hibernate, JPA).
• Proficiency with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent problem‑solving and debugging abilities.
• Fluent written and verbal communication in Chinese (Mandarin).
