Investigations Manager – Immigration Fraud

About the role
Join the Immigration, Compliance and Investigation (ICI) team within MBIE and lead high‑impact investigations into immigration fraud and related crime. Based in Auckland, you will shape the integrity of New Zealand’s immigration system by providing strategic risk management and expert leadership across complex cases and cross‑agency collaborations.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the investigation and prosecution of immigration fraud cases and support partner agencies in related prosecutions.
- Provide expert advice on complex cases and develop risk‑management strategies across the immigration system.
- Deploy investigative capability effectively nationwide through a centralised allocation and support function.
- Develop and implement work programmes, performance targets and operational strategies.
- Monitor emerging risks, adjust operations and ensure alignment with systemic and responsive needs.
- Coach, mentor and manage a high‑performing team of investigators and specialists.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government and non‑government stakeholders and represent MBIE in cross‑agency forums.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in complex criminal investigations and prosecutions, including giving evidence in District and High Courts.
- Strong understanding of investigative and regulatory techniques.
- Proven ability to lead and influence without formal authority and to develop high‑performing teams.
- Expertise in risk management and operational decision‑making.
- Experience working across agencies and building strategic partnerships.
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- New Zealand citizenship or an indefinite residence class visa.
