Internal Audit Manager – Financial Services

About the role

EY is seeking a Manager to lead internal audit engagements for New Zealand’s largest banks, insurers and other financial institutions. You will work closely with senior risk stakeholders, providing independent assurance and practical insights on regulatory, transformation and risk challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution and delivery of internal audit and independent assurance projects across banking and insurance sectors.
• Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and risk leaders.
• Identify emerging risks, control weaknesses and improvement opportunities, translating findings into actionable business outcomes.
• Evaluate governance, risk management and control frameworks across operational risk, compliance, conduct, financial crime and technology risk.
• Apply data analytics and technology‑enabled audit techniques to enhance insight and efficiency.
• Lead engagement teams, coach junior members and ensure high‑quality client deliverables.
• Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously while maintaining quality, commercial performance and deadlines.
• Contribute to business development, proposals and thought‑leadership initiatives within the Financial Services market.

Required profile

• Several years of experience in internal audit, risk consulting or related roles within financial services.
• Proven ability to engage senior client stakeholders and influence decision‑making.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on delivering practical business outcomes.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience coaching junior staff.
