Intermediate Surveyor

About the role

Civix is expanding its Christchurch office and is looking for an Intermediate Surveyor to support a variety of land development and civil infrastructure projects across Canterbury. The role combines field surveying, data processing and plan preparation, offering exposure to both on‑site and office work while developing technical expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver end‑to‑end surveying tasks for land development and civil projects.
• Conduct fieldwork, process survey data and prepare accurate plans.
• Support project delivery by coordinating tasks, tracking progress and meeting milestones.
• Perform topographic and construction surveys to professional standards.
• Collaborate with planners, engineers and other consultants on multidisciplinary projects.
• Communicate project progress and technical matters to clients and stakeholders.
• Guide junior surveyors where appropriate and help identify project risks.

Required profile

• Bachelor or Diploma in Surveying (or equivalent) preferred.
• 2–5+ years of experience in civil construction or land development surveying.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand surveying principles and LINZ requirements.
• Proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with strong organisational and time‑management skills.
• Willingness to be based in Christchurch or relocate to the region.

Required skills

• Experience with survey software such as AutoCAD.
• Experience with 12d survey software.
• Experience with Leica Infinity.
