About the role
We are seeking an experienced leader to head improvement initiatives and own the asset management information systems for our Infrastructure and Assets Group. Reporting to the Head of Asset Strategy and Information, the role works across the council to enhance asset management capability and support better decision‑making for the city.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of organisation‑wide asset management improvement programmes.
- Act as the business owner for the council’s asset management information systems, influencing direction and performance in partnership with Digital Services.
- Provide expert asset management advice to teams across the council.
- Develop and maintain long‑term asset management planning frameworks and practices.
- Build organisational capability through training, guidance and practical support.
- Create and maintain an accessible asset management knowledge hub for staff.
- Ensure policies, standards and practices are clear, consistent and aligned to best practice.
- Identify and manage risks, contributing to business continuity planning.
- Support cross‑council collaboration to achieve asset management outcomes.
- Represent the council in sector relationships, including Āpōpō NZ.
Required profile
- 15+ years of experience in asset management and/or local government.
- Relevant degree in engineering, science, IT, management or a related field.
- Proven track record leading asset management or system improvement programmes in a large organisation.
- Strong expertise in asset management systems, processes and integrations.
- Demonstrated leadership capability with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Deep knowledge of asset management principles, frameworks and sector best practice.
- Experience working collaboratively across teams to design and implement improvements.
- Excellent communication and report‑writing skills.
