Hiking Guide (Kaiārahi) – Hollyford Valley Walk

About the role

Join a dedicated team delivering unforgettable wilderness experiences in Fiordland National Park. As a Kaiārahi (Hiking Guide) you will lead guests along the Hollyford Valley track, sharing the natural, historical and cultural stories of the area.

Key responsibilities

• Guide small groups through rainforest, river and mountain terrain safely.
• Provide engaging storytelling about ecology, Māori heritage and early European exploration.
• Ensure guest wellbeing, including first‑aid response and safety checks.
• Collaborate with teammates to maintain equipment, lodges and transport logistics.
• Participate in pre‑season training and ongoing area‑specific learning.

Required profile

• Warm, welcoming personality with a focus on hospitality (manaakitanga).
• Strong interest in New Zealand ecology, history and Māori culture.
• Excellent fitness and proven tramping or guiding experience in Aotearoa.
• Adaptable team player comfortable with changing outdoor conditions.
• Willingness to learn te reo Māori and uphold Ngāi Tahu values.
• Passenger endorsement licence or ability to obtain one.
