Head Teacher (Kaiwhakaako) – Turangi

About the role

Lead the Turangi centre as Kaiwhakaako (Head Teacher), inspiring a passionate team and creating a safe, nurturing environment for tamariki and whānau. You will champion the centre’s values, drive high‑quality early childhood practice, and ensure the delivery of Te Whāriki with confidence and joy.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership and day‑to‑day management of the centre.
• Foster a culture grounded in health, safety, aroha, mana, tiaki and manaaki.
• Build strong relationships with tamariki, whānau, community partners and external agencies.
• Support children’s social, emotional and confidence development.
• Implement and uphold the collective agreement (KTCA) conditions.
• Oversee compliance with health, safety and first‑aid requirements.

Required profile

• A confident, courageous leader with genuine commitment to tamariki.
• Relationship‑builder who connects meaningfully with families and the community.
• Passionate about supporting children’s holistic growth.
• Entitled to work in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Required skills

• Level 7 teaching qualification specialising in Early Childhood Education.
• Current practising teaching certificate.
• Valid first‑aid certification (Level 1 or higher).
