Head of School – Health (Academic Leadership)

About the role

The School of Acute and Primary Health at Auckland University of Technology seeks a senior academic leader to serve as Head of School – Health. This 5‑year fixed‑term role is based at AUT’s South Campus in Manukau and provides strategic direction for a multidisciplinary health school of more than 70 staff.

Key responsibilities

• Shape and implement faculty strategy as a core member of the Dean’s leadership team.
• Lead and develop a diverse team of academic and professional staff, fostering an inclusive, high‑performing culture.
• Ensure academic excellence across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in oral health, paramedicine, midwifery and peri‑operative practice.
• Strengthen research capability, programme quality and external reputation of the school.
• Balance operational effectiveness with people leadership, promoting staff wellbeing and collaborative partnerships.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading large, complex academic units.
• Demonstrated track record of strategic planning and change management in higher education.
• Strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, particularly Māori and Pacific knowledge.
• Ability to work collaboratively across faculty and university-wide initiatives.
