Full Stack Software Engineer (Payroll SaaS)

About the role

We are looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer to join Smartly’s Payroll SaaS team. You will help design, build and maintain the Smartly Payroll System that serves over 20,000 New Zealand businesses. The role combines front‑end work with React or ASP.NET Razor and back‑end development in C#/.NET, delivering reliable, secure and performant features.

Key responsibilities

• Own day‑to‑day delivery of features, from clarification to production verification.
• Collaborate with product and design to translate requirements into clean, testable code.
• Participate in code reviews, write unit tests and ensure high code quality.
• Identify and raise risks or blockers early, supporting predictable delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best engineering practices.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience in full‑stack development, preferably in a SaaS environment.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to write maintainable code.
• Excellent communication and teamwork orientation.

Required skills

• C# and .NET development (minimum 2 years).
• Front‑end technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React or ASP.NET Razor.
• Version control with Git.
• Understanding of software architecture, SOLID principles and OOP.
• Familiarity with service‑oriented frameworks.
• Exposure to Azure cloud services (a plus).
