Forward Deployed Accountant

About the role

Join Sterling, an AI‑driven accounting assistant, as a Forward Deployed Accountant. You will work across New Zealand, Australia, the UK and beyond, helping finance teams adopt our platform and shaping the product based on real‑world usage.

Key responsibilities

• Guide Financial Controllers, Finance Managers and CFOs through onboarding, configuration and first‑run workflows.
• Analyse existing finance processes, identify automation opportunities and teach Sterling to handle repetitive tasks.
• Collaborate with product teams to surface edge cases, design new features and improve existing functionality.
• Define and refine onboarding, implementation and support best practices as the business scales.

Required profile

• Strong accounting background, preferably CA qualified or equivalent.
• Hands‑on experience within finance teams, with a deep understanding of how processes are actually performed versus how they are documented.
• Excellent communication skills – able to explain complex concepts clearly and build trust quickly.
• Highly organised, self‑directed and comfortable working in a hybrid startup environment.
