Foreperson – Civil Construction / Roading

Our Wellington team is seeking an experienced and motivated Foreperson to lead daily site operations on civil and roading projects. Whether you are already a Foreperson or a Leading Hand ready to step up, this role offers a great opportunity to advance your career with Higgins.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise operators, labourers, subcontractors, and labour‑hire staff.
• Plan daily activities and organise plant, materials and resources.
• Run pre‑starts, toolbox talks, hazard identifications and safety checks.
• Ensure work meets specifications, quality standards and health & safety requirements.
• Complete daily documentation, reporting and site records.
• Support, coach and develop your team.
• Operate plant and equipment when required.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers and stakeholders.

Required profile

• 5+ years civil/roading experience with leadership exposure.
• Strong knowledge of earthworks, pavement construction, drainage or general civil works.
• Ability to read plans, understand specifications and organise work effectively.
• Solid understanding of QA processes and health & safety requirements.
• Excellent communication and a proactive, solutions‑focused attitude.
• WTR and Class 1–4 licences (essential).
• First Aid certification (essential) and STMS (desirable).
• Experience coordinating crews, subcontractors and resources.
