Finance Business Partner

About the role

We are seeking a Finance Business Partner to join the Finance team at Palmerston North City Council. In this role you will work closely with various business units, providing strategic financial advice, analysis and reporting to support decision‑making and the council’s long‑term objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with business units to align finance contributions with strategic goals.
• Provide proactive financial management advice, analysis and insights.
• Prepare and interpret monthly reports, including variance analysis and driver identification.
• Develop data analyses and scenario modelling to support budgeting and forecasting.
• Assist managers in understanding financial reports and implications.
• Lead process improvement initiatives, cost modelling and performance enhancement opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CAANZ membership or relevant professional qualification.
• Experience in management accounting or finance business partnering.
• Proven advisory experience within a finance function.
• Strong IT aptitude with advanced Excel and ERP system proficiency.
• Positive, collaborative approach to working with stakeholders.
