Excavator Operator – Road Maintenance

About the role

Higgins is expanding its team following the award of the Wellington City Council Road Maintenance Contract. We are looking for experienced Operators to join our crew, operating excavators and other civil‑road plant to keep Wellington’s roads safe and functional.

Key responsibilities

• Operate excavators, rollers, brooms and related road‑maintenance equipment.
• Carry out stabilised pavement repairs, dig‑outs, drainage, concrete works, slip repairs and minor earthworks.
• Support the crew on‑site, ensuring safety and quality standards are consistently met.
• Assist in planning daily tasks and coordinating resources.

Required profile

• Class 2 driver licence with a White‑Topping (WTR) endorsement.
• At least 3 years of experience operating excavators, rollers and brooms.
• Background in civil construction or road maintenance.
• Availability for on‑call roster work.
• Flexible, reliable and committed to showing up in all weather conditions.
