Director Strategic Projects Office

About the role

Lead the Strategic Projects Office for a leading New Zealand organisation, turning strategy into execution. You will own the portfolio rhythm—including forums, governance, prioritisation, reporting and escalation—and partner with senior leaders to balance control and enablement across technology, transformation and change initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Define and run the portfolio governance framework, ensuring clear decision forums and reporting cadence.
• Prioritise initiatives, manage dependencies and provide delivery assurance across the portfolio.
• Collaborate with executive stakeholders to drive measurable outcomes for technology and transformation programmes.
• Escalate issues and manage risk‑based controls while enabling agile delivery.
• Lead a team of strategic project managers, business analysts and digital professionals.

Required profile

• Senior experience leading a PMO, SPO or portfolio function in complex environments.
• Proven ability to build cadence through decision forums, reporting rhythms and governance discipline.
• Strong portfolio governance skills, including prioritisation, dependency management and delivery assurance.
• Change leadership capability that goes beyond methodology to shift ways of working and delivery maturity.
• Executive‑level stakeholder management skills: influential, resilient, clear and data‑driven.
• Superior leadership ability to develop and inspire a high‑performing team.
