Director of AI Engineering

About the role

Timescapes is seeking a Director of AI Engineering to lead the development of AI capabilities that will define the next generation of its construction‑progress tracking platform. This senior position combines deep technical expertise with the ability to thrive in a fast‑moving startup environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of AI systems, including computer vision, multimodal AI, model evaluation, data pipelines, and production‑grade infrastructure for edge and cloud.
• Transform early AI concepts into market‑ready product features, integrating off‑the‑shelf LLMs/LVMs with custom computer‑vision models.
• Provide technical judgement on model performance, system architecture, data quality, observability, reliability, cost, and scalability.
• Establish AI evaluation processes, define benchmarks, acceptance criteria, failure modes, and feedback loops.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with Product, Software, and Hardware teams to align technical feasibility with business goals.
• Shape the long‑term AI team strategy, including hiring, external partnerships, and tool selection.
