Director – Government & Market Development

About the role

This senior leadership position at EY New Zealand is based in Wellington and focuses on the Government & Public Sector and related industries. The Director will shape EY’s market positioning, originate and close large, complex opportunities, and drive revenue growth across priority sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead sector growth by originating, progressing and closing large, complex opportunities with government and public sector clients.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior executives, including CEOs, senior department heads and ministerial offices.
• Act as the senior market face, coordinating EY partners and specialists to deliver compelling, multi‑service propositions.
• Own market positioning, sales pipeline and conversion performance for priority sectors.
• Strengthen team alignment and EY’s reputation as a strategic partner delivering measurable commercial outcomes.

Required profile

• Deep understanding of the Wellington public sector landscape, including government structures, political cycles and funding environments.
• Established senior stakeholder relationships (CE/DCE level) with credibility in politically sensitive contexts.
• Proven ability to originate and shape large opportunities ahead of formal procurement and drive them to closure.
• Strong commercial acumen with a track record of building pipelines and converting opportunities into revenue.
• Experience in professional services, advisory or public‑sector‑adjacent environments.
• High emotional intelligence, resilience and a visible, well‑connected presence in the Wellington market.
