Development Engineer II

About the role

Rocket Lab is seeking a Development Engineer II to contribute to the design and qualification of structural and mechanical components for the Neutron medium‑lift launch vehicle. You will work closely with analysis and manufacturing teams to turn concepts into detailed, manufacturable designs.

Key responsibilities

• Produce and rapidly iterate conceptual CAD designs for metallic and composite structures and mechanisms.
• Identify and resolve technical challenges to keep projects on schedule and safe.
• Prepare complete drawing packages, technical reports, and documentation such as FMEA, P&IDs, and ICDs.
• Support definition of design requirements and ensure manufacturability throughout the design process.
• Develop, execute, and document test plans for structures and mechanisms, including test jigs and fixtures.
• Analyze test data to verify functional and performance requirements.
• Collaborate with senior engineers for mentorship and technical guidance.

Required profile

• Aerospace, mechanical or mechatronic engineering degree or equivalent.
• 3‑5 years of experience designing high‑performance mechanical systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX.
• Experience creating FMEA, P&IDs, and Interface Control Documents.
• Ability to develop test plans, conduct testing, and process test data.
