Design Engineer – Structures

About the role

We are looking for a skilled and driven Design Engineer to join our National Operations and Strategy team in Christchurch. In this role you will deliver innovative structural engineering solutions across a variety of impactful projects, from concept through to completion.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver structural engineering designs for permanent and temporary works, including bridges, civil, commercial and industrial structures using reinforced concrete, steel, timber and masonry.
• Provide technical supervision during construction to ensure designs are implemented accurately, safely and with minimal rework.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders, building relationships and identifying business development opportunities.
• Prepare detailed documentation such as design reports, calculations, drawings and specifications in line with NZ design codes and industry best practice.
• Promote a Zero Harm safety culture and incorporate sustainability considerations into all design activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent.
• Proven experience in structural design and project management, preferably on a range of infrastructure projects.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with commercial awareness.
• Knowledge of New Zealand design codes and standards.

Required skills

• AutoCAD (or similar CAD software) for producing detailed structural drawings.
