About the role
Oranga Tamariki is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to lead the development and maintenance of its modern, cloud‑based data platform built on Azure and Databricks. This 12‑month fixed‑term position is based in Wellington and combines operational support with project delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Support and maintain the Azure + Databricks cloud data platform.
- Enhance and optimise data pipelines and ETL processes.
- Onboard and integrate new data sources.
- Troubleshoot platform issues and resolve incidents via ServiceNow.
- Contribute to CI/CD and Infrastructure‑as‑Code practices (Azure DevOps, Terraform, Bicep, CloudFormation).
- Collaborate with vendor partners to deliver platform services.
- Ensure platform alignment with architecture, governance, and security standards.
- Support emerging AI/ML workloads on Databricks.
Required profile
- Proven experience as a Data, Platform, Site Reliability or DevOps Engineer.
- Strong background in data warehousing and enterprise ETL development.
- Ability to provide technical leadership for large, complex initiatives.
- Comfort working across BAU support (≈25%) and project delivery (≈75%).
