Data Engineer

About the role

Z is a leading transport energy company in New Zealand, part of the Ampol Group. The Data Engineer will join the Data, Analytics & AI team to help improve customer experience and drive the low‑carbon future through robust data pipelines and analytics.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines using Databricks, Azure Data Factory and Microsoft Fabric.
• Develop complex data models to support reporting, analytics and business intelligence.
• Optimize performance, scalability and usability of existing BI models and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, scientists and business stakeholders to translate raw data into actionable insights.
• Identify and evaluate emerging BI technologies and industry trends.

Required profile

• Strong experience in data engineering with a focus on big‑data technologies.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor junior engineers and influence stakeholders.
• Analytical mindset capable of turning business requirements into data solutions.
