Dam Technician

About the role

Join Watercare as a Dam Technician and spend your days working outdoors in some of Auckland’s most impressive natural environments. You will be directly involved in the operation and maintenance of dams and related water‑supply infrastructure, ensuring safe and reliable service for the city.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain critical headworks structures to keep them safe and reliable.
• Support the smooth running of Auckland’s water supply system through clear communication and operational assistance.
• Maintain the hydrological network, ensuring performance standards are met and data supports informed decision‑making.
• Work hands‑on on and around dams, performing routine inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance.

Required profile

• Enjoys outdoor, practical work and feels confident in water environments.
• Holds a relevant technical qualification or equivalent practical experience.
• Possesses a current full New Zealand driver’s licence.
• Ideally has a tertiary qualification in Engineering or Science (not essential).
• Has experience in a similar setting with a strong focus on safety around water.
• Comfortable using computer‑based systems and databases.
