Court Security Manager

About the role

The Ministry of Justice is seeking a Court Security Manager to lead a team of up to 12 security officers across Invercargill and Queenstown, with the home base in the Gisborne District & High Court. You will ensure a safe environment for the public to access justice while fostering strong relationships with stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, coach and mentor security officers to reach their full potential.
• Manage day‑to‑day operations in a complex security environment.
• Identify operational risks and make rapid, confident decisions.
• Engage with diverse people, agencies and business units, including NZ Police, Corrections and Te Oranga Tamariki.
• Maintain safe and professional court operations.
• Complete a three‑week residential training course in Wellington within three months of start.

Required profile

• Strong leadership capabilities.
• Customer‑service orientation.
• Ability to de‑escalate conflict.
• Physical fitness for full‑contact officer safety techniques.
• Confidence using technology.
• Full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence.
