Court Registry Officer – Fixed‑Term Position

About the role

The Court Registry Officer will join the Justice Services team at the District Court in Kaitaia, supporting the smooth operation of the court and interacting with a wide range of stakeholders, including judges, legal practitioners and the public.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate court proceedings (court taking), including introducing judges in English and Te Reo Māori and providing support in both the courtroom and chambers.
• Manage case logistics to ensure judges and parties have accurate information and that hearings run efficiently.
• Provide front‑line customer service for court‑related enquiries via face‑to‑face, phone and email.
• Liaise with multiple stakeholders across the justice system and maintain accurate court records.
• Perform general administrative duties associated with court operations.

Required profile

• Highly detail‑oriented and observant, with a strong focus on accuracy.
• Self‑aware and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Capable of multitasking and managing conflicting priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Eager to learn and adapt to evolving legislation and court processes.
• Resilient when dealing with sensitive or high‑volume casework.

Required skills

• Fluent in English.
• Proficiency in Te Reo Māori.
• Knowledge of court administration procedures and case management.
