Compliance Officer - Noise

About the role
Join Auckland Council’s Environmental Health Response team as a Compliance Officer – Noise. You will lead the response to noise complaints, conduct proactive investigations and help the community understand their rights and responsibilities.
Key responsibilities
- Respond promptly to noise complaints, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, service level agreements and key performance indicators.
- Carry out proactive investigations, enforcement actions and noise monitoring, including background and pre/post‑consent assessments.
- Support contracted Noise Control Officers and assist with escalated or repeat noise issues.
- Manage escalated cases, keep all parties informed and liaise with senior staff and specialists as needed.
- Audit contractor performance and contribute to continuous improvement across the team.
- Participate in out‑of‑hours duties and support other Environmental Health teams with low‑risk public health inspections during quieter periods.
Required profile
- Experience in regulatory or compliance‑focused roles with a solid understanding of investigative techniques and relevant legislation.
- Strong customer‑focused problem‑solving abilities and the capacity to work in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication skills, professionalism and empathy when handling challenging situations.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, collaborative working style and ability to balance enforcement with education.
- Calm, fair and solutions‑oriented approach aligned with Council policies.
Required skills
- Conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation in frontline regulatory settings.
- Application of legislation, assessment techniques and sound problem‑solving.
- Working confidently with diverse communities while maintaining strong customer service standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Computer skills: Windows environment, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
