Community Ministries Manager – Lead Community Services

About the role

The Community Ministries Manager leads the Tauranga Community Ministries centre, delivering holistic, wrap‑around support to individuals and whānau facing hardship. This senior leadership position balances people management, operational oversight, and community impact to fulfil The Salvation Army’s mission of caring for people, transforming lives, and reforming society.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day operational leadership ensuring safe, effective service delivery.
• Lead, support and develop a multidisciplinary team delivering essential community services.
• Oversee service quality and ensure alignment with practice frameworks and contractual obligations.
• Manage budgets, funding and resources to maintain sustainability and accountability.
• Build strong relationships with Corps (church) leadership, iwi, and community partners.
• Promote an integrated, collaborative approach to service delivery and mission alignment.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading teams, building culture and supporting staff wellbeing.
• Resilience and confidence navigating complexity, change and competing demands.
• Experience in community or social services with a solid understanding of holistic, trauma‑informed practice.
• Strong relationship skills to build partnerships and influence outcomes.
• Financial and operational competence, including budget management.
• Cultural competence and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
