Commercial Lead - Business Development

About the role
Nova, a leading energy company in New Zealand, is seeking a Commercial Lead for Business Development to shape new energy opportunities from concept to investment decision and execution. The role can be based in Wellington or New Plymouth and will work across the full energy portfolio, including renewable projects, acquisitions and multi‑energy deals.
Key responsibilities
- Lead commercial structuring, negotiation and contracting for new business development opportunities.
- Shape and negotiate partnerships, alliances and acquisition structures, including term sheets and contracts.
- Support origination and project development by building relationships, stress‑testing commercial assumptions and identifying routes to market.
- Guide opportunities through diligence, investment approval and transition into delivery or asset ownership.
Required profile
- Strategic thinker with 6‑10 years of experience in commercial or business development roles within infrastructure, energy, renewables, investment, advisory or capital‑intensive projects.
- Strong financial judgment and ability to interpret financial indicators to drive business decisions.
- Proven credibility and ability to build trust with internal partners and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
