Clinical Educator

About the role

The University of Canterbury is seeking a Clinical Educator to join its School of Psychology, Speech and Hearing. This permanent, full‑time position will combine clinical practice, teaching, supervision and programme development to shape the future psychology workforce in New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging teaching for the postgraduate Psychology Assistant programme.
• Provide coaching, applied skills development and competency‑based assessment for students.
• Support culturally responsive and Te Tiriti‑informed practice throughout the curriculum.
• Facilitate simulation‑based learning, clinical demonstrations and community placement experiences.
• Mentor students in ethical, reflective and culturally responsive practice.
• Build and maintain partnerships with community organisations and placement providers.
• Contribute to programme development, innovation and continuous quality improvement.
• Participate in clinical service delivery through the UC Psychology Centre, offering demonstration and observation opportunities.

Required profile

• Postgraduate Diploma or Doctorate from an NZPB‑accredited Psychology Professional Training Programme (or equivalent).
• Current registration as a Psychologist in New Zealand with eligibility to practise.
• At least three years post‑registration clinical experience in mental health and addiction assessment and intervention.
• Proven experience delivering psychological services to diverse client groups.
• Strong collaborative and interdisciplinary working skills.
• Demonstrated ethical, reflective and culturally responsive practice.
• Current driver’s licence with no endorsements.
