Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

About the role

The Chief Financial Officer will join the executive team of Farmers Trading Company, a leading New Zealand retail brand. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will act as a strategic partner to the Board and oversee finance, property, loss prevention, and corporate services across a complex, multi‑site retail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Drive budgeting, forecasting and performance analysis for the entire business.
• Own monthly management accounts, board reporting and year‑end statutory reporting.
• Manage day‑to‑day cash flow, bank facilities, foreign‑exchange and hedging requirements.
• Negotiate and manage the portfolio of commercial leases across the store network.
• Oversee external audit relationships and ensure tax compliance.
• Attend Board and Audit & Risk Committee meetings, providing commercial insight.
• Review contracts and legal documentation.
• Lead the Finance, Corporate Services, Property and Loss Prevention teams.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant, preferably with Big 4 or mid‑tier experience.
• Minimum 10 years of senior finance leadership experience.
• Multi‑site retail experience highly regarded.
• Proven property or leasing experience desirable.
• Strong commercial and legal acumen; comfortable at board and executive level.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high‑tenure finance teams through change.
