Chief Engineer – Hotel Facilities & Maintenance

About the role

Novotel Queenstown Lakeside is seeking a hands‑on Chief Engineer to lead the engineering, maintenance, compliance and asset management functions of its busy 4‑star hotel. Reporting to the Executive Assistant Manager, you will ensure the property’s facilities and staff accommodation are safe, efficient and presented to the highest standards, supporting exceptional guest experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Engineering and Maintenance team.
• Develop and deliver preventative maintenance programmes and oversee day‑to‑day repairs and capital projects.
• Maintain all hotel plant, equipment and building services to a high standard.
• Manage contractors, permits, compliance documentation and statutory maintenance requirements.
• Oversee fire safety systems, emergency preparedness and health & safety compliance.
• Monitor maintenance budgets, asset registers and engineering records.
• Collaborate with Front Office and Housekeeping to maximise room availability and guest satisfaction.
• Drive sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement across the property.
• Prepare maintenance reports and respond to after‑hours emergencies when required.
• Maintain staff accommodation, ensuring timely repairs and compliance with company standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Chief Engineer, Engineering Manager or Senior Maintenance Manager in hospitality, accommodation or commercial facilities.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand health & safety legislation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage contractors, budgets and compliance documentation.
• Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
• Proactive, able to prioritise competing demands and respond to after‑hours emergencies.
• Full New Zealand working rights and flexibility to work weekends or public holidays.
