Carpenter/Builder – Prison Maintenance

About the role

The Carpenter/Builder will carry out building and carpentry repairs at Waikeria Prison, supporting both reactive and preventative maintenance programmes. You will work closely with the on‑site trade team and Cushman & Wakefield’s HSSE and facilities managers to ensure a safe, functional environment for corrections staff.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver building and carpentry remedial tasks within contracted time frames.
• Complete planned and reactive maintenance work orders and close them upon completion.
• Identify maintenance issues early and escalate to supervisors or managers.
• Maintain daily site‑specific documentation and adhere to HSSE Q&R policies.
• Participate in rostered call‑out duties and shift work, including weekends, to meet KPI requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of general maintenance experience, with at least two years in commercial settings.
• Good spoken and written English communication skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and provide customer‑focused service.
• Successful Ministry of Justice/Police background check and completion of Cushman & Wakefield induction and compliance training.

Required skills

• Valid driver’s licence.
• Ability to operate machinery such as mowers, pressure washers and weed eaters.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, webmail and tablet devices.
• Site Safe certification and, preferably, qualifications for Working at Heights and Elevated Work Platforms.
