Capability Advisor – Emergency Management (12‑month contract)

About the role

The Capability Advisor will join Auckland Council’s Emergency Management team to strengthen the city’s preparedness and response capability. Working from a central Auckland location with flexible home‑working options, you will design and deliver training that builds real‑world readiness for staff, volunteers and partner agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate or co‑facilitate emergency management training as part of the ACES development programme.
• Design and develop fit‑for‑purpose training resources, tools and courses aligned with the Emergency Management Capability Framework.
• Support Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) functions and agency partners within the Emergency Coordination Centre.
• Contribute to inter‑agency and community capability‑building initiatives across the Auckland CDEM Group.
• Participate in the on‑call and stand‑by emergency response system, performing response and recovery duties as required.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in emergency management, recovery, infrastructure or community work.
• Proven ability to design and facilitate training or workshops for diverse audiences.
• Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills across multi‑agency environments.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver complex outcomes.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
• Working understanding of the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS).
