Building Surveyor Inspector – Albany

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Building Surveyor Inspector to join Auckland Council’s Field Surveying team in Albany. The role involves conducting building inspections across the North Shore region, ensuring compliance with the Building Code, Building Act and council policies while providing clear guidance to clients.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect building work to verify compliance with building consents, codes and legislative requirements.
• Make technical decisions on inspection outcomes and record findings accurately.
• Provide customers – builders, homeowners, architects and developers – with timely advice on building code and council processes.
• Maintain robust inspection records and support continuous improvement of compliance procedures.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of experience in a building‑related regulatory or inspection role.
• Relevant qualification such as a National Diploma in Building Control Surveying or an equivalent IANZ‑accepted credential.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Building Act, Building Code and structural integrity standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and a customer‑focused approach.
