Bagger Operator – Underground Mining

About the role

OceanaGold is seeking a Bagger Operator to join its underground gold mine at Waihi, New Zealand. The role offers a permanent, on‑site position with a true work‑life balance in the scenic Coromandel region, eliminating FIFO schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Operate LHD equipment to remove and transport ore from stopes to tipples, stockpiles or trucks, either manually or via LOS/Teleremote systems.
• Conduct risk assessments, pre‑start checks, and ensure safe ground conditions before each shift.
• Coordinate with charge crews, relay shift handovers, and complete required paperwork and reporting.
• Clean development headings, perform clean‑ups, transport waste material, and backfill stopes as required.
• Assist in training and mentoring new operators on safe operating procedures.

Required profile

• Current First Aid certification.
• Demonstrated competence in operating LHD machinery.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
• Willingness to work on‑site in an underground mining environment.
