Backfill Engineer (Paste/CRF)

About the role

Endura Mining is seeking a Backfill Engineer (Paste/CRF) to join its onsite team near Reefton, West Coast, New Zealand. You will play a key part in designing and delivering backfill solutions that support long‑hole open stoping and cut‑and‑fill mining methods, ensuring ground stability and efficient ore recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Design, coordinate and optimise all backfilling activities for long‑hole open stoping (LHOS) and cut‑and‑fill (CAF) mining methods.
• Ensure paste fill and cemented rock fill (CRF) systems meet required strength, quality and timing specifications.
• Manage the interface between underground backfill demand and surface tailings disposal, coordinating paste plant, process plant, underground operations and the Integrated Waste Landform (IWL) Facility.
• Develop stope‑specific fill designs, including binder content, fill heights, barricade requirements and curing times.
• Optimise paste fill rheology, binder blends, slump targets and delivery rates.
• Specify CRF mix designs, rock size distribution, cement dosage and placement methods.
• Integrate backfill sequencing into the mine plan, coordinating curing times, re‑entry requirements and exposure sequencing.
• Design and approve barricades for LHOS and CAF stopes.
• Oversee pipeline and reticulation systems for paste and CRF delivery.
• Implement QA/QC testing, including slump tests, UCS sampling, binder tracking and strength verification.

Required profile

• Experience with backfill design and operation in underground mining environments.
• Familiarity with paste fill and cemented rock fill systems.
• Ability to coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams and manage complex operational interfaces.
