Automotive Mechanical Engineer – Expert (Remote Contract)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Automotive Mechanical Engineer to create a realistic digital workspace for AI research labs. This remote contract position focuses on building comprehensive task environments that simulate real automotive engineering workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Design a digital workspace centered on daily Drive folders, incorporating design reviews, DFMEA/PFMEA, PPAP packages, tolerance analyses, benchmarking decks, test reports, and email threads.
• Create multi‑step tasks that require navigation of multiple applications, files, and stakeholders to challenge frontier AI agents.
• Collaborate with other automotive experts to define task scope, ensure realism, and review scenarios for rigor.
• Work asynchronously with research teams to refine task designs and evaluation criteria for automotive engineering benchmarks.
• Contribute directly to AI research by informing how leading labs train and evaluate next‑generation systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of full‑time experience at a Fortune 500 automotive OEM or Tier‑1 supplier.
• Hands‑on experience in vehicle or subsystem design, CAE/CAD/simulation, manufacturing/process engineering, or quality engineering.
• Daily use of ANSYS Fluent, STAR‑CCM+, Siemens Opcenter, or SAP S/4HANA.
• Strong analytical thinking and written communication skills.
