Audit Manager (12-month contract)

About the role

We are seeking an Audit Manager on a 12‑month contract to lead independent assurance activities across Suncorp New Zealand. The role will strengthen risk management, governance and internal controls while providing actionable insights to senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, execute and deliver end‑to‑end internal audit engagements on schedule and within budget.
• Identify and assess key business risks and controls, producing recommendations that support decision‑making.
• Develop audit scopes, testing strategies, work programmes and audit reports in line with internal audit methodology and professional standards.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with business owners, risk teams and audit partners to ensure effective audit outcomes.
• Monitor remediation actions and follow‑up on audit findings to ensure risks are managed within tolerance.
• Contribute to audit planning by highlighting emerging risks and areas of focus.
• Coach, mentor and develop junior audit staff to foster a collaborative, high‑performing team.
• Drive continuous improvement, including the use of data analytics and technology to enhance audit processes.

Required profile

• Proven experience in internal audit, external audit, risk management or a related assurance function within a complex corporate environment.
• Strong understanding of internal control frameworks, risk management principles and internal auditing standards.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills with the ability to influence at all organisational levels.
• Commercial acumen and knowledge of regulatory and governance requirements.
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Information Technology or a related discipline; professional qualifications such as IIA, CA or CPA are highly regarded.
