Audio Evaluator (NZ English) – AI Trainer

About the role

Mercor is seeking a remote Audio Evaluator to support AI research labs by transcribing, annotating, and evaluating New Zealand English audio and video content. This contract position offers flexible hours and the chance to contribute to cutting‑edge language models.

Key responsibilities

• Transcribe and optimise audio/video clips in New Zealand English, ensuring clarity and compliance with guidelines.
• Develop and document evaluation rubrics and grading standards.
• Conduct model testing, grade outputs, and provide feedback to improve performance.
• Support benchmarking and quality‑assurance activities to maintain dataset consistency.
• Collaborate with project leads to resolve ambiguities and refine task design.

Required profile

• Strong writing, editing, and critical‑thinking abilities.
• Native or near‑native fluency in New Zealand English, including awareness of regional vocabulary and Māori influences.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Availability for 10–20 hours per week.
• College students or recent graduates, preferably with a background in linguistics, humanities, or social sciences.
• Experience in transcription, annotation, or localisation.
• Interest in AI and language‑model development.
