Associate Operations Engineer

About the role

Join Napier City Council as an Associate Operations Engineer and help keep the city’s essential water infrastructure running smoothly. You will work alongside engineers, contractors and operational teams, providing practical, solution‑focused technical advice.

Key responsibilities

• Support day‑to‑day performance of the 3 Waters infrastructure.
• Investigate asset performance issues and develop fit‑for‑purpose solutions.
• Assist with asset condition assessments, maintenance planning and performance monitoring.
• Plan and coordinate detailed surveys of water assets.
• Work closely with contractors and City Services teams to deliver operational tasks.
• Raise purchase orders, track work, and help manage invoices and data.
• Identify opportunities for operational improvements and small capital works projects.

Required profile

• Diploma in Engineering and a current driver’s licence.
• Approximately 2+ years’ experience in infrastructure, utilities or a similar hands‑on environment.
• Understanding of 3 Waters infrastructure and operational activities.
• Practical knowledge of field tools, equipment and site‑based work.
• Strong organisational and administrative abilities with attention to detail.
• Confidence working with contractors and a range of stakeholders.
• Flexible, solutions‑focused approach in a fast‑paced environment.
