Assistant Registrar – Waitangi Tribunal Unit

About the role

The Assistant Registrar supports the Waitangi Tribunal by performing essential registrarial functions that enable the Tribunal to operate effectively. This role is based in Wellington and works closely with legal teams, Māori groups, and the judiciary.

Key responsibilities

• Register claims submitted to the Waitangi Tribunal.
• Prepare legal aid application reports.
• Provide drafting assistance and advice on legal and procedural matters.
• Assist with the preparation of documentation and correspondence related to Tribunal proceedings.

Required profile

• LLB qualification or advanced study towards an LLB.
• Understanding of Waitangi Tribunal jurisprudence.
• Experience working with Māori groups and organisations.
• Strong organisational, planning and legal research skills.
• Knowledge of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori, or a willingness to develop these competencies.
• Experience with the judiciary is an advantage.
