Assistant Programme Manager – Darfield

About the role

As an Assistant Programme Manager at sKids, you will be the friendly face that makes mornings and afternoons unforgettable for children across our Darfield sites. Working a minimum of 10 hours per week, you will support the Programme Manager in delivering safe, inclusive, and fun out‑of‑school experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Programme Manager with day‑to‑day operations and act as second‑in‑command when required.
• Lead and supervise large groups of children during arts, crafts, sports, games and off‑site trips.
• Apply positive guidance strategies to manage challenging behaviour and maintain consistency across the team.
• Support and mentor Programme Assistants, ensuring activities run smoothly.
• Communicate clearly with parents, caregivers, and school staff.
• Prepare, set‑up and pack‑down resources for each session.

Required profile

• Legal right to work in New Zealand (visa or citizenship).
• Reliable transport to reach the Darfield site.
• Experience working with groups of children (e.g., childcare, coaching, camps).
• Comfortable stepping into a leadership role and making decisions.
• Ability to manage behaviour calmly, firmly and supportively.
• Team player with strong communication skills for both children and adults.
• Age 20 years or older.
